It’s what they’ve seen, what they’ve tried, and many stay there thinking that’s the product. It’s not. Anthropic has packaged four different products on the same model, each designed for a different way of working. Knowing the difference matters: the plan a company signs up for determines which ones it has access to, and to choose wrong is to pay for something you won’t use. This is the short guide to Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude Security.

Claude and Claude Code: the two most widely used products

Claude is chat. The conversational interface available on web, mobile and desktop that most teams use every day to draft, analyze documents, synthesize meetings or explore data. It is the entry point to the ecosystem and, in practice, the one that racks up the most hours in any organization that takes Claude seriously.

Claude Code is something else. It is a specialized software agent that reads the entire repository, plans changes that affect several files, runs tests and leaves commits ready for review. It works from the terminal and from the web. The difference with a traditional autocomplete wizard is one of nature: Claude Code does not suggest the next line, it completes the entire task. Anthropic itself has confirmed that most of the company’s code today is written by Claude Code, with its engineers focused on architecture and review.

For an industrial company, chat comes first. Claude Code comes when there is in-house technical equipment or when the project calls for system-level automation. How we deploy Claude in companies depends on which products enter each phase.

Claude Cowork: the product that changes the pace of work

Cowork is not a chat room: it is an agent operating on the user’s desktop. The operational difference is clear. In chat, a person asks a question and Claude answers. In Cowork, the person defines a result, gives access to the necessary folders and connectors, and the agent executes the task from start to finish in the background. The user returns when the job is done.

A concrete example. A B2B marketing team needs competitive research: map five competitors, collect public pricing, synthesize positioning and return a structured report. In a chat room, that task requires twenty exchanges and two hours of the person pasting context. In Cowork, it is launched as a single instruction with access to the output folder and the necessary web connectors. The team goes on with the day. Within hours it comes back and finds the report ready for review.

What changes is not the quality of the output, but the pattern of use. Cowork moves background tasks to a standalone layer, frees up team time for decision and review, and connects to local files and external tools. It’s where our implementation of Claude starts to touch the team’s weekly calendar, not just isolated conversations.

Claude Security: the most specific product in the catalog

Claude Security is the most recent release. It has been in public beta since April 2026 and, for now, is only offered to Claude Enterprise customers. It runs on Opus 4.7 and solves a specific problem: scanning code repositories for vulnerabilities, explaining each finding with its confidence level and proposing patches that the development team reviews before applying.

Its target audience is clear: SOC teams, security and compliance managers. It is not a product designed for marketing, sales or management. We include it in this guide so that the catalog is complete and because it is useful to know that it exists when it is time for audits or conversations with IT.

Which product is used by each type of equipment

A reasonable distribution when an industrial company adopts Claude in phases:

Marketing and content: Claude for writing and analysis, Cowork for research tasks, compilation and delivery of reports

Sales and commercial support: Claude operating on CRM and commercial data to prepare meetings, qualify leads and write proposals.

Development and IT: Claude Code for new features, refactors, migrations and technical automation

Security and compliance: Claude Security for continuous code scanning and vulnerability management

Management: Claude as a synthesis layer on reports, data and decisions

If you came to this post without prior context of what Claude is as a technology, it is worth reading the introduction to Claude AI and Anthropic first.

The plan determines which products you have

The four products are not contracted individually. They are part of Claude’s different plans, and each plan opens access to a different subset. Before deciding which one fits, it’s a good idea to be clear about what each includes and at what price: we cover this in detail in the Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plan guide.
